A Tradition of Excellence in Fashion Education
For nearly 65 years, LaSalle College has been a pillar in training future fashion design talent. Its graduates actively contribute to the industry's growth both locally and internationally, by launching their own clothing and accessories lines or joining design teams in local businesses.
"Given the current political climate, it was essential for us to demonstrate that our Québec and Canadian talents have nothing to envy from the rest of the world," says Andrew McNally, Dean of Fashion at LaSalle College.
Highlighting the Economic Impact of Local Fashion
The fashion industry represents a rich heritage for the greater Montréal area and Québec as a whole. Investing in local fashion is a direct investment in our economy. The fashion and apparel ecosystem generates $7.9 billion in direct and indirect contributions to the GDP and $1.4 billion in revenue for both levels of government.
Fashion is one of the most lucrative industries globally, and supporting our local manufacturers, retailers, and designers goes beyond symbolism. Clothing, accessories, and textiles have a significant economic impact, with 77,505 jobs in Québec.
"Too often, buying local fashion is seen as a constraint, associated with limited options or high prices. However, our Québec manufacturers, retailers, and designers offer innovative, sustainable, and high-quality collections that can compete with major international brands," adds Mathieu St-Arnaud, Executive Director of mmode.
